How much do wigs cost?

Posted on September 27 2017

Ever heard the phrase "you get what you pay for"? Well it rings true a bit in every purchase. So, how much do wigs cost? When buying a wig, there are a few things to know in order to ensure you spend your money wisely.

How much do wigs cost? For example: Provocateur by Raquel Welch

Everyone seems to think that human hair wigs are the best choice. They are wonderfully luxurious and if you get good quality hair (which not all human hair necessarily is) there is no other feeling like it.  However, there are some things to know about human hair before deciding whether it is right for you. For instance, it takes quite a bit of maintenance as you have to style it daily just like you would your own hair.

Synthetic wigs come pre-styled and are virtually hassle free when it comes to styling. Just keep it maintained properly and it provides you a much easier daily style. The synthetic hair technology has come a long way! These are not your mother's wigs anymore! Synthetic hair is beautiful and is very hard to detect the difference between human hair when you get a good quality wig.

The next factor to consider when deciding how much a wig costs, or how much you should spend on a wig is cap construction. For the most realistic scalp/part and front hairline you definitely want a monofilament top and lace front cap construction. This gives you the most natural look and also affords you some styling versatility.

The cost of buying a wig can vary anywhere from $50 - $3000. However, if you get a cap construction that is the most natural (as mentioned above) your price range is likely to be somewhere between $200 and $400 for a great quality synthetic wig. For human hair (good quality hair), you are looking at $700 - $2000. These, of course, are general estimates as certain wigs will have specific features that could increase these prices, but it is reasonable to expect these price ranges.

So, how much does it cost to buy a wig? It's up to you and the features and benefits you feel are important in your life style. The good news…There is a wig for any budget and even a less expensive wig can be a nice Choice. Just lower your expectations on the time it will last.

A good quality synthetic wig with proper care should last anywhere from 3 to 6 months of regular use. For human hair, you can easily double that timeframe.

It doesn't really matter what quality you have chosen… If you feel good in it you will look good!

    Terry,

Thank you for your recent comment on our blog!

In Envy, the closest color to Glazed Sand is Ginger Cream. Please note, this color is not rooted so it will seem slightly less natural than what you are used to.
The best color match to Ellen Wille is Champagne Rooted, but unfortunately, the color isn’t available in all styles.

If no other color will do, you may want to look at a new style within the Raquel Welch collections!

Please let me know if you have further questions!

Yes, synthetic and human hair blends are able to be cut and styled, just as your natural hair.

    Sandra,

Thank you for your recent comment!

YAY! New styles are always very exciting, thank you for allowing us to play a part in helping!

The good news is that there is no set style for 70, so find a style that is absolutely you!

I would suggest trying a short to a mid-length bob or a pixie with a longer fringe, two styles that are a departure from Dylan! I have provided you some petite options via email.

Please let me know if you have a specific style in mind, then we can give you more specific recommendations!

    Jessica,

    Thank you for your comment!

Have you tried Ellen Wille’s new Hair Society Collection? It is made for ladies with hair loss and the styles are made much smaller than her typically sizing.

Unfortunately, as you said, not too many longer styles come in greys in Ellen Wille. I will give this feedback the manufacturer.

Thank you for your recent comment!

Although we haven’t heard from the manufacturer that Berlin will be offered in more colors, we will be sure to pass along your suggestion to them!

We just emailed you several options similar to Berlin that come in greys.

I need color help! I have been a Wigs.com customer for over 10 years. My go-to wigs have pretty much been Raquel Welch Cinch, color R1621S (Glazed Sand).

I want to change styles. I tried Ellen Wille recently but the color (Caramel rooted and Pearl rooted) on the 2 wigs I received. The colors on both wigs looked so unnatural, so I returned them for credit. I then ordered the Envy wig Elle in Dark Blond. Again, the color is so unnatural looking I didn’t even take it out of the box.

So — what color in Envy is the closest match to Raquel R1621S? What about Ellen Wille? What color is the closest match to R1621S?

I have had alopecia for many years (completely bald). I am now in my late seventies so I need something age appropriate. Have been wearing Dylan by Amore in Harvest Gold for years but am ready for a change. Any suggestions?

  • Jessica: September 29, 2017

    Hi,
I would love to see “true petite” options from Ellen Wille.
Her wigs have a great feel, however the fit/ size is a problem for those of us suffering from hair loss with a smaller than average.
Hope to see more selections soon!

  • Frances Bolt: September 29, 2017

I LOVE the Ellen Wille synthetic wigs! I have 2 of the Hair Society wigs and they look so natural. I wear the gray wigs, but only a very few of the Hair Society wigs come in grays. I would like to try a little longer wig, maybe almost shoulder length, but none of those come in a gray or gray-mix. Is there a reason for that?

  • Doris: September 29, 2017

The Noriko Berlin is great but is there ever going to any in greys?

  • The Wig Experts: September 19, 2017

    Sharon,

Try Ellen Wille! Their styles are very natural looking and have great brunette colors!

Based on your length that you are wanting, look at Arrow in MOCCA ROOTED and see if this is what you are wanting.
Carrie by Ellen Wille is also very natural! Try the color CHOCOLATE MIX.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or would like other suggestions!

    All the best,

hi there my hair is thinning as i get older through genetics and menopause. I love the very natural look and i like the mousey brown to darker brown mixes.wigs that are to the shoulder blades length. can you help me please.

  • The Wig Experts: September 14, 2017

Hi Nancy! You have come to the right place. Soft and Subtle by Gabor is a natural looking mid-length style with soft curls. It’s made with synthetic hair which is low maintenance and keeps its’ shape! To give you some options, check out Evanna by Rene of Paris and Spirit by Ellen Wille. Keep in mind, Spirit is more maintenance because it is made with a 50/50 blend of human and synthetic hair. The shape doesn’t hold as long but the wig is truly gorgeous and so worth the extra effort! Feel free to contact our customer service department and ask anyone of our wig experts for help. We will most definitely help you find your match!

My hair is falling out and I’m looking for a wig that looks natural. My hair is very blonde except white around my face. Can’t wear bangs be cause I have a small forehead. I like mid length and soft. Curly. Little wispy or baby hair around rhe face. Hope this isn’t asking for to much.
